delle lavandaie / Kirsty Baker, Job Leseman

crumpled, crinkled ripped, sewn, patched, torn, twisted, beaten, dyed, soaked, dried

An ode to craft, to textiles, and to the invisible labor that for centuries was carried out mostly by women. Together with performer Kirsty Baker and production leader Job Leseman, we created rituals around the washing and processing of textiles. We invited the audience to participate in our ritual and to transform the fabric together. Singing loudly and hitting the cloth hard against the long table, the audience became part of this celebration and the work itself. I dyed the fabrics, built the table, and twisted the ropes to create a space in between a fisher’s hut, a palace and a ship where craftsmanship could be given a stage.
